when should i use a condom?

every time you have sex!

condoms and other barrier methods (such as dental dams, gloves, and finger cots) are the BEST way to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

use barrier protection no matter what parts you and your partner have!

choosing and using a condom

  • only use condoms that have been stored in a dry, room-temperature area 

  • check wrapper for expiration date and any signs of damage

  • once out of the package, pinch the tip of the condom to allow for extra space about 1/4 inch from the tip of the penis

  • sit the 'sombrero' over the head of the penis and roll border down to the base of the penis

removing a condom

  • immediately after use, hold onto the base of the condom and withdraw

  • gently slide condom off the penis and discard in the trash

use water-based lubricants

(lubricant packaging should say "water-soluble")

do not use oil or silicone-based lubricants because they  degrade condoms

do not 'double-bag.' this puts additional friction on both condoms and may cause tears.
